Just a little Feeding in October

With the transitional weather of October, this month marks the end of when we can effectively feed bees to "top them off" before winter. Below 50F the bees won't take down liquid syrup because it's too hard for them to turn into resources to eat all winter, and it introduces too much moisture into the hive that can't be dried out. In beekeeping a wet hive is a dead hive!

All our supplimental feeding is just that, supplemental to what the bees have already been storing all season. We only "top off" colonies when they feel a little "light" in reserves to make it through the winter.
